On June 6 1775, 1200 militiamen under william prescott set up forts at breeds hill . Low on ammuntation william prescott said "dont shoot untill you see the white of there eyes. The americans ran out of gunpowder and withdrew. The British won the battle but suffered a costly lost. 1000 dead and wounded .As one british officer wrote. "Dear brought victory another would have ruined us". The wins had a terriable effects on the winning side.

The early war was fought with very few troops on both sides.The british did win the fighting in new york.The british did not win a desisive victory over the patriots yet.They fought with very few troops,the british had only 2,200 troops and the patriots had only1,200 troops.During the summer of 1776 britian sent 32,000 troops across the atlantic to new york.General william howe hoped the sheer size of his army would convince the patriots to give up

The Patriots loss severely to the British. They had fewer troops with only about 20,000 troops. They were determined to win. The patriots had a hero tho named nathan hale who was a spy for the patriots. during the war he was caught by the british and was sent to be hung. The patriots were out numbered and out maneuvered the continental army had a serious defeat to the british.they also needed blankets for the cold weather

Running low on soliders Washington asked congress for more troops. Being rejected Washington sugested emancipating the African American slaves his idea was once again turned down. In the early years of the war white southerners had the same ideas of washington but they feared revolt and they did not feel comfortable handing guns to the people they had once abused and forced to do free labor for.
Low point.....
The patriots cause was near collapse. Some soldiers completed their terms of sevice and went home washington could not believe that the fight for liberty would truly fail.
